District Picks Chief School Leadership Officer for Elementaries

Matt Marsh in dark blue pullover sweater with checked shirt and dark tie

Matt Marsh has been selected as the next chief school leadership officer for elementary schools in the Office of School Leadership. He will replace Barry Richburg, who has accepted a position in another state. With more than 19 years of experience in education and service to Fayette County Public Schools, Marsh has served as principal at Sandersville Elementary since 2017. He will begin his new role on July 1.

Marsh joined FCPS in 2005 and served as a fifth-grade teacher at Northern and Sandersville elementary schools before entering school leadership in 2010 as the administrative dean and professional growth and effectiveness coach for Sandersville Elementary School. While in this role, he was appointed interim principal for the 2014-15 school year at Garden Springs Elementary before returning to Sandersville. In 2017, Marsh was promoted to principal. While at Sandersville he chaired the School-Based Decision-Making Council and Kentucky Teacher Internship Program (KTIP) committee and facilitated student support systems and structures. He currently serves as a member of the Kentucky Association of School Administrators Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee.

"Matt’s appointment reflects his exceptional dedication to education and proven leadership within Fayette County Public Schools," said Superintendent Demetrus Liggins. “ His journey within FCPS confirms his commitment to excellence and ability to lead effectively. We are confident that his experience and passion for education will greatly benefit our elementary schools.”

Marsh holds a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Kentucky, a master’s degree in instructional leadership from Eastern Kentucky University, and his Ed.S and superintendent certification from the University of the Cumberlands. He is expected to complete his Ph.D. in leadership studies next year.
